Primary Goals
Strengthen the value of the AWFS®Fair for both exhibitors and attendees
Strengthen and develop industry education to better qualify the current workforce and equip the next generation of woodworkers
Building a cohesive, industry-wide coalition to create an effective voice on Public Policy issues affecting the industry
About Our Goals and Membership
AWFS® is a trade association with an international, corporate membership. Our members include manufacturers and distributors of machinery, hardware, lumber, upholstery materials, bedding components, plastics, wood products, and other supplies. In addition to supporting our member companies, AWFS® also works closely with other industry associations on issues of mutual concern.
AWFS® is the owner and direct producer of the biennial AWFS®Fair. The Fair is the largest industry show in the United States held in July of in odd-numbered years since 1957 and since 2005 the association has hosted 8 shows in Las Vegas, NV. This past summer marked the 32 trade show.
AWFS® began in 1911 as the Suppliers Chapter of the California Furniture Manufacturers Association. Later, in 1979, the chapter incorporated as a separate organization to fulfill a major need: to represent the interests of companies and individuals who supply the home and institutional furnishings manufacturing industries.
Since its inception, AWFS® has donated millions of dollars toward educational programs and scholarships. Our goal has two branches. First, we want to ensure that the current workforce has access to knowledge about the latest tools, technologies, and policies. Second, we want to equip the next generation of industry leaders with a full understanding of the woodworking industry.
In addition to its education initiatives, AWFS® also actively challenges legislation that is unfair to American manufacturers so that they can remain competitive in the global marketplace. Since AWFS® reinvests the proceedings from the biennial show back into the woodworking industry, as a result Fair supporters and participants help to strengthen the industry’s future.
